Description
This is another of a small series of small fairies in glass domes that I made some years ago.
The Cornish mine pixies were useful to the miners, whistling when they found a good seam. But they could get fairly stroppy if they heard miners swearing or otherwise behaving badly.
There is a great deal of fascinating information at www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A26353596
These high-fired figures are about 4inches tall, and are made of T-material which is a grogged porcelain which holds detail well up to 1280C.
They are fired a third time or more to do the enamels which give the bright colours.

great bit of work! he looks very intent
Very cool. But if these guys are upset by improper language, he'd best steer clear of me. He'd go nuts.
Hope we will see more, love them.
A charming little fellow. I imagine you have works scattered all over England that have become family treasures.
ok, first of all, I had to look up "stroppy" and "grogged"! I know what "grog" is, but I didn't know it was used in relation to porcelain! (So what, the porcelain gets drunk, and it's easier to work with?) (If I'm insulting you deeply, just ignore me...) More "I love these". I can't believe you did this in 4 inches! You captured, once more, the great look of these creatures---love the long pointy nose, and the big ears, and that overhanging lip---you're so good at this! And the hat which points away from his face---real counterpoint here. And the great glassy mushrooms, and the log, and those great pointy shoes---these are gems. So glass sat on top of these? I have to say, if I had this in my home, I'd take the chance and let it sit outright, just to see the great striated texture of your work, with nothing between it and me. Great stuff. You can post and repost your sculptures anytime, any place. I just love this.
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
Stunningly over freaking cute and so small!!!!!!! Fantastic masterpiece. The way he sits is simply perfect.
