Description

Bisbee was founded as a copper, gold, and silver mining town in 1880. In 1929 the Cochise County seat was moved from Tombstone to Bisbee, where it remains. In 1917, open-pit mining was successfully introduced to meet the copper demand during World War I. A high quality turquoise known as 'Bisbee Blue' was a by-product of copper mining, as were minerals such as cuprite, aragonite, wolfenite and others. As mining declined the towns population fell from over 9,000 at its peak to less than 6,000. Between 1950 and 1960 the population increased again as open-pit mining thrived but a decrease in mining activity resulted again in a falling population which led to a crash in housing. This in turn, plus an attractive climate attracted artists and hippies of the counterculture. Today,Bisbee, located 11 miles north of the Mexican border at an elevation given as 5,568-ft (1,688 m) and an estimated 2016 population of 5,200 inhabitants attracts many tourist, This picture was taken from highway 80 on 10 November 2017, Sig...

I've heard the name of this town in several western movies. Nice shot of hillside living.

Bisbee is the setting for a murder mystery series by J.A. Jance. It's great to see a photograph of the actual town, after having read more than ten books that were set in that area! The author describes the hillside, but there's nothing like seeing in "in person" to get a sense of what the place is really like.

Great shot! A fascinating walk up the old town too and will quickly remind you if you haven't been keeping up with your cardio workouts lately.
