Description
I was so taken with the shadows cast by the museum lighting, I never actually looked to see what this was! It was in the African exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins. I took several pictures, all at about the same setting, so I can tell you that the light they have on this exhibit changes subtly in color and brightness. This is not the first time I've noticed that sort of lighting!

Fascinating light and shadows indeed - and a really great shot of this.......uh........ whatever it is, Tara! I think it's a sheepagator... they've been extinct for a while, don't ya know...... Whatever it is, I'm sure it flies. I'd better head over and check it out myself!

well I've already written about what this is---and you found it in the NA site. YOu captured a kind of spirit-essence of it, rather than a 'document' of it. The alligator's face is sunken in deep shadow, with emerging details mixed with darkness. And the horns, or whatever they may represent, are captured almost as soft pastries...they have a softness that's tangible, touchable. You captured the zebra-like shadows, and the play of them on the bottom. Light on the bottom, much more shadow on top---another of your museum "emerging out of the ages" shots, capturing the mystery and deep presence of these things in museums. (And more contrast---again, not the etched contrast of my window-tree shot, but deep contrasts all the same. You'll have to explain what you meant...)
