Description
This diorama is a bit more like it... the American troops are hiding in the woods using their long rifles to snipe at the other side. From what I've read riflemen of this sort were a mixed blessing. The long rifles were probably personal weapons and normally used to put food on the table. Thus they were not fitted with bayonet sockets, nor was reload time a normal consideration (the rifles took twice as long to load as the muskets). Thus these guys stayed under cover to do their work and when some hard-charging infantry from the other side took umbrage with being picked off, the riflemen would skedaddle and let the Merkin light infantry cover the retreat or reestablish the line. Still there are advantages to picking off the guys on horses, carrying swords or spontoons, or just the odd grunt to make life miserable for the opposition. These guys were popular with some commanders more so than others, but you use the forces to hand.
Some glass glare and a bit more shake than I'd normally find acceptable, but you get the idea of what this diorama is about.
We will now join the activities shaping up outside.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
