What's New with The Art Of Carol Cavalaris
Galleries: I currently exhibit my work in several Colorado galleries, including juried shows at Art At The Center in Nederland, and Gilpin County Art Association in Central City. I also exhibit in several on-line art galleries. I also have on-going exhibits at various banks, community centers, libraries, restaurants, and also participate in local Art Fairs and Festivals. Art Licensing: I am a collectible artist with The Bradford Exchange, where my art is on a Dream Catcher Collection, as well as an exclusive figurine and sculpture collection. My art is also being licensed and is on a variety of products including: eSkins for laptops, iPads, iPhones, etc., puzzles that are being sold in Target, K-Mart, and other retail and web stores. Several of my pieces have been licensed by a company called The Mountain. They produce high-quality, environmentally-friendly T-shirts and other apparel, and have some of the finest wildlife and fantasy artists in the world on their team. I never thought about your "language of flowers" title: It's so like you, I simply took it as the kind of title you'd naturally come up with. But I thought about it here: Your flowers really are about their language; because you explore how they express themselves, and their inner essences. It's the perfect title for this series.
This is filled with strong brush-strokes, articulate brush-strokes (speaking of language), as these glads move their way from the "spine" of the painting---ie, the green stalks/leaves out of which the flowers grow and make their way to the bottom right of the painting. That 'spine' is perfect: It's the strong rod on which this piece rests.
And the flowers then pulse their way away from those leaves; and the strokes get broader, and the light, darker. It's a really powerful progression; with the lower right portion of your image like the calmer waters that follow the intense, center waves. You also move from brighter reds into deeper purples and crimsons. It's a natural progression from outward to inward (spine to lower right). And those brighter reds---in the flowers nearest the 'spine'---have really vital strokes, pulsing their way out of their centers. Van Gogh would embrace this whole-heartedly. And on the upper left, a more impressionistic section of (almost) washes, in purples and blues, etc. And in the top center? Pure light. A break in the intense cosmic activity, to introduce the calming light behind it all. This has all the progressions of the soul in it. And it's majestic and very expressive. Great work, Carol. With the exception of Georgia O'Keeffe, I can't think of a single flower painter who explores the cosmic inner life of a flower the way you do. And you go places she never did. Truly great work.
Well, I'm at an hour and 10 minutes, and I have to stop again. I did about 5 more images, mostly flowers (with the exception of that wonderful elephant), and I'm now going to have dreams! Great work. Whatever interruptions you've had in your art, you seem to rekindle it as soon as you come back to it. Your inner sanctums are messing around with the energies at the center of being. Magisterial and magical stuff...
