Description
About 5 years ago, I was leaving my house for an appointment when I noticed the cat was after something. I stopped - got out of my truck and went to investigate. Turns out the cat was after this Five-lined skink. In adults the stripes fade and only the breeding males develop the red-orange coloration. Juveniles have brightly marked stripes and bright blue tails.
I managed to catch the skink and release him in a wood pile where he would be safe. I also managed to take a few pics before letting him go. In this one he is looking for an escape path and judging the distance to the ground to see if that is a viable choice.
