Interesting photo, Mark. Love the b&w capture. Has some interesting things in this photo. Can't tell if that's some kind of a shield on the table or a clay object for yard art. Can't make out that thing on the post. Looks alot like the band's Queensryche logo.

Love the postwork, Mark (definitely requires a zoom to full size to see the abstract patterns, though the initial view can also be appreciated on a completely different level). The composition is outstanding & I'm not seeing any obvious anachronisms that would give this away as a 21st century photograph...

From the title I thought perhaps you took this photo when you were depressed but it does have a wonderful vintage look. Excellent post work. It could easily pass for the period.

Great attempt to give some credence to this shot as late 1920s to early 1930s. I'm no Chicagoite, but I do wonder if there were brick walls and patios like that back then. Maybe so. And I think Baton Rouge would have had more of a dusty front porch setting, with an emaciated family sitting on the steps.

That is a really great result and I know you worked a long time on it. Looks like a cozy place to enjoy the good weather :) But yes, it had this depression time over it.

It's the bats that Steve thinks look like Queensryche's emblem, btw. (It's good to have friends who are into heavy metal music ... you never know when we might come in handy.)

The drifting, dead leaves give this a somewhat neglected air, which adds to the Depression-era vibe. However much time you took with this, it was worth the trouble. The result is superb!

Oh, my Mark,...what a challenge you've set for yourself! I just went back and relooked at some Depression era photography to stir my mind. Love what Walker Evans (FSA photographer) said..., "My goal as a photographer is to make pictures that are 'literate, authoritative, transcendent' ". Like this composition under the main entrance stairs of a house that certainly predates the Depression...looking at family belongings that shed light on a place where they can kick back and enjoy some time away from the big city and the routine of daily life. Black and white is perfect for the genre. Looking forward to more.

this is a fabulous photo - I feel I'm there in that era, wondering where my next meal may come from - how will I feed my family and if there is any work for me this day. very gritty and hard hitting photo.
