Description

About 7 or 8 years ago, a large dead Oak tree fell into my pond. It had been dead for at least 5 years before it fell. The limbs had already dropped off of it so there was just a pole left. It was so dry that it broke into 3 pieces when it fell. The 2 long pieces sank within a day or so but the smallest piece floated for several weeks before it also sank. During the time that it floated, a number of different critters took the opportunity to perch, lay, or sit on it. I managed to get several photos of some of them. This old Red-eared Pond Slider is one of those shots, In this image he was eating a piece of a dead fish. I took at least a half dozen photos. I kept trying to also capture the Eastern Amber-wing Dragonfly that kept landing on his back for brief periods of time. My patience was rewarded with this shot. I managed to both of them in focus.
