Description

Captured indoors back on 6/29/2011, at the semi beautiful Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in semi beautiful San Pedro, California. Original on top, just for the record. Sea urchins or urchins, archaically called sea hedgehogs, are small, spiny, globular animals that, with their close kin, such as sand dollars, constitute the class Echinoidea of the echinoderm phylum. About 950 species of echinoids inhabit all oceans from the intertidal to 5,000 metres (16,000 ft; 2,700 fathoms) deep. The shell, or "test", of sea urchins is round and spiny, typically from 3 to 10 cm (1.2 to 3.9 in) across. Common colors include black and dull shades of green, olive, brown, purple, blue, and red. Sea urchins move slowly, feeding primarily on algae. Sea otters, starfish, wolf eels, triggerfish, and other predators hunt and feed on sea urchins. The name "urchin" is an old word for hedgehog, which sea urchins resemble. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia.

Amazing what you've done with the variations and color in each photo. The original #1 and variation #3 offer the most dynamic of color range. Beautiful renderings !

In every one of your wilder montages, whenever you say "original is on top," it's always logical. But in THIS piece, all THREE of them could be the original! At least to a viewer not knowledgeable about sea urchins. These are splendid shots. They're like fireworks, all 3, both in forms and in light. And the forms above them---starfish, maybe?---look like balloon floats (do sea urchins have Macy's Day Parades?) The one at the top---right of middle---looks like a kid holding up a sail! Amazing forms and hues and highlights. And each one is unique from the rest---impressive given that you didn't change the forms at all, so only the color schemes make the difference. And the final one seems to have the greatest variation within it. Splendid trio of shots and postwork, Harry. A compendium of marine fireworks and 'floats'. Terrific.

Harry, I'm at nearly an hour, and there are still a number of artists I haven't visited once, so I'll have to move on. I'll be back another time before I step away. And thank you for your always terrific comments: I appreciate every one; esp when you're struggling with health issues every day.
