Two weeks ago hhgreg had a everything must go sale. * sigh * Where am I going to play video games now?
I walked into a Circuit City in Langley, Virginia in 1983 and tried to buy a circuit. Then I looked around and saw all the TV's and what not. "No circuits", I asked. I had built audio circuits on a breadboard with 300 volt B+ rails. I had built transistor circuits with 12 volt connections with Knoblock my lab partner as a Junior in college. No circuits...
Yep same in Canada :( Great shot
We had a few in this town that went down including ultimate electronics/soundtrack. Sorta sucks so many lost jobs.
Another short Circuit. Makes me wonder if the stores management listened to their customers needs, or decided to ram their own ideas of products and services down their customers throats? I've seen this happen here, too (Sweden). The arrogance of (mis)management puts a lot of people out of work. Sigh.... Keep up the good work. Blow the whistle at them.
It's a particularly nasty spiral. First, the big box outlets forced out many/most locally owned smaller stores. The spread of suburban shopping malls hastened this. Who could afford the rent but a franchise of a national chain? Next, the outlets tended to hire salespeople who barely knew the specific content of what they were selling and wouldn't have gotten promoted even if they had because corporate ownership valued management degrees over experience. Declining customer service and lack of meaningful competition, along with the rise of internet shopping, led to where we are today. Brick and mortar stores (except for perhaps clothing) are dying a very painful death.
the same you can find in my town everywhere and what you can find later is a "1 euro shop" 😥
you got some heavy duty reflections from your commenters on this! Opened up a can of worms about defunct businesses...The shot feels bleak and desolate, because of the lack of people, but moreso because of the bleached white tone, which creeps into the facade and dominates the sky. A kind of bleached vision of abandoned life. And you left in the big red side portion, as an accent---ironic considering that the place is abandoned. Strong contrasts and a feeling of a place left standing after people left the region. Well done.
Yea and all because people buy through the internet. Great shot BTW!
