Description
Another "primitive" image. Apparently a trolley barn in a city that has a 3rd Avenue. Is this New York? I don't know, but the painting has a plethora of detail. Yup, that's a hint: ZOOM!
Is this before, during, or after the Civil War? Don't know, but we see plenty of soldiers and an inscription (which I can't read) in the lower left corner.
Colorful indeed. Even with air transport in the background.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

it is a very interesting painting and it is loaded with details: the rails are shifted by a person going out and using a lever (obviously before they came u with the idea of an embedded lever system like you see today - before the electrical switch system) the building above the trolley barn appears to be either a hotel or apartment complex - indoor plumbing? as for the military personnel, too nondescript to accurately determine the era - the appearance of the Balloon suggests possibly post Civil War times... these are all thoughts that flit through my mind as I view the painting.
Totally, man. Gotta luv the windvane. Yes, those uniforms are bizarre. White cross belts makes them rather dated or, as you said, non-descript as in (fill in military uniform No. 4, please). Looking at the building, we notice that the balcony is populated by what appear to be generic "Wigs, Big, 6 ea." I'm wondering if this is some sort of parade getting underway. The flag is still being raised, so this is early. or is it being lowered and this is late? Aw heck!
lovely
Very interesting documentation !!
Yes, we just don't know what all the fuss is about!
Ah, the famous trolley barn painting. Post civil war but before electricity. 1870's? Check the number of stars in the flag. The rear of the building lies on a slope. New York? Probably not. I have not succeeded in finding this under the title Trolley Barn. However, I know the painting is well known. Keep up the good work. It's nice to see these old American paintings. :-)
Tried to count them, but gave up. The inscription made me cross-eyed enough for all of us. I don't know what the real title is, but I had to have one for "R". Glad you enjoy the style.
Great shot!
Another amazing photo of this painting, love this colourful scene.
Thanks! Now all we have to do is figure out the real title... oh Siri, show me pictures of spaghetti.
There is a name in the left lower corner which looks like Wm (William) Darling possibly referring to a New York City politician up until about 1871. He was also president of the 3rd Avenue railroad 1854 to 1867 which ran horse car trolleys in the city.
Good eyes! And all that makes sense. Maybe it's political event with military/militia participation.
