Description
No matter where one goes in the American West, in stores like this one in Tortilla Flat in Arizona, there seem to be a couple of Wooden Indians standing next to the entrance. And those Indians always look the same, a feather headdress and deer skins and moccasins. But here in the Southwest, specifically New Mexico and Arizona, where the Apache, Navajo, Hopi and Utes lived, they wore no headdress and deer skins.
Feather headdress and deer skins were worn by the tribes that fought Custer at the Little Bighorn, Plains Indians like the Sioux, Arapaho, Crow, Cheyenne and Oglalla. But most people don't care, and most tourists wouldn't know the difference.

And they usually stood in front of a cigar store way back when.
Great capture! I never even thought about what they wore - of course I was raised by what Hollywood presented

Nicely captured my friend!!
Great capture and narrative!
beautiful
And there are bars on the doors over the windows - to keep the drunks in from getting out and creating town mayhem, or to keep out robbers from getting in and robbing the cash registry and leaving holes in the drink bottles and the mirror behind them! As for the Indians, I could never figure out why they were in front of stores or diners, considering how they were treated back then. Keep up the good work! :-)
Very cool pic
Interesting and Stunning image! !!
I like the unpainted one best.
