The characters and poses of this series are among your best.

This is a very strong, detailed piece. The figures and setting are just STUNNING. I also adore the glimpse of scenery outside the doorway, and really approve that the lighting isn't just flat white or yellow, but has a pleasing organic hue. But I'm having trouble with the story you're telling. The flat-on camera angle is giving me neither drama nor poignancy -- it just sort of presents the image to us, whereas looking up at them could sell the drama, or looking down on them could convey a sense of austerity and make them seem to be but small actors in a grander scene. I also would make two specific observations regarding the composition of the figures as they relate to the background. The wings are kind of blending into the stonework because they have a similar color. And there is stonework behind Gerald that has a sharp angle perfectly in line with his chin -- at a glance, it gives him that sharp-edged "Dick Tracy" chin. Moving Gerald just a bit (or softening the lines of the stonework in post-production) would help that minor detail. I hope I don't sound overly negative -- I only wrote all this because I found your illustration to be very inspiring. GREAT JOB.
