The famous San Gabriel River Flood Channel, captured 6/8/12 @ 12:24 pm. This particular section, looking south and adjacent to beautiful Rynerson Park, is in the southern portion of beautiful Lakewood, California. And, in contrast to the bicycle rider, I was walking along the path, for I don't know how many miles. I could never do it now with my numerous physical problems. Anyway, I took tons of pictures, aiming both north and south, as I hiked along this concrete behemoth. Power towers are most evident in the distance. Unfortunate and short sighted that they let the water pour into the ocean during a rain storm, which are rare enough, rather than conserve much of it in reservoirs for use during a drought.

there was an old, old joke about a "rary" bird (made up name), and the gist is: It takes forever to get at the bird and push it over; so when the main character catches the bird, and pushes him over, the joke-teller says: "It's a long way to tip a rary". I can't hear "Tipperary" without thinking of that joke! (My dad told it when I was 5.) A clear, open-feeling shot, almost bleak, of a long, long roadway, with that crystal clear channel looking so odd and pristine between the two long rows of concrete. A striking shot, because of the endlessness of the concrete, and the bleaching sun and clear sky. The electrical towers just add to the repetition. And the lone bike rider adds a sense of loneliness to the shot. Beautiful, open, and clear as a bell. And amazing what a mistake they made about the storm-waters: Maybe they never predicted such a drought as all of you had recently...
