This abstract painting of a garden of dragonflies on long stems, growing in the vibrant colors of a rainbow is a mixed medium work created with alcohol ink and digital painting. It is from my Bloomies Collection.

I'll be escaping the snow in Colorado with a visit to my family in California for the next week. We had 90 mph winds the other night that blew out the electricity, blew down 4 giant pine trees on my property and shook my house, and even my bed. It was nuts! Things are now calm again.

A very unusual image for you, because it appears more like a scratched or carved image than one of your usual images. Like you scratched it out of many hues hidden behind black wax. And what you created was a stained glass look, with multiple panes and lights and lead 'solder joints' (the lead beams that hold the glass together). And while it's on the dark side---much moreso than your usual pieces---the sections have their own light and presence. Because of your technique here, the image has a certain graphic flatness, like a graphic print, or a colored etching, or a carving. But you still have clear foreground, midground and background. The long 'stalks' that fall down from the dragonflies are like streamers of light which have occurred because of the inner power of the dragonflies themselves. And they stream down into darkness below. And, at top, the dragonflies swarm together in various positions, making a big swarm of stained-glass patterns (lots of insect wings look like stained glass, closeup), and multiple hues, and other shapes that your alcohol ink work always bring out of you...
It feels like a mass of beings, creating streamers of light and energy (beneath them); and, with all the dark in it, it feels like someone came by and carved this vision on the very 'surface' of the night, so as to light-up the night and give it an intense story. A beautiful image, very unusual for your gallery, and articulated with a great deal of detail and care. And the colors are dark and very rich.
Mark, thanks so much for your comment. I agree, this is a different piece in my gallery, as I played with some filters and enjoyed the rainbow effects. It reminded me of the wax art I did as a child, scraping off the black crayon to reveal the colors underneath. It was very messy but fun. With this piece, I liked all the intricate detail and blending of the colors.
