Description
Since 31 July 2010, the cathedral and the episcopal city of Albi have been listed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
The construction of this cathedral lasted from 1282 to 1480.
The region had been devastated by the crusades against the Cathars, who believed that religion should be lived in poverty, unlike the Catholic church that displayed splendor and wealth.
It is these reasons that led the architects to create a brick cathedral, a traditional material in this region and not very expensive. The aim was also to show the sanctuary protected by thick walls. (infos Wikipedia)

Nice view of the cathedral framed by the shadowed alleyway. I learned about the Cathars on a trip through the Dordogne a few years ago - they suffered horrible persecution at the hands of the Catholic church...
