Description
The view northward from the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine.
The top of Cadillac Mountain was so cold and windy when we were there in the middle of October. It is only 1,530 feet above sea level (464 meters). Wind breakers did the job for our bodies but our hands felt like they were freezing in about 10 minutes...yes, we had no gloves:) It was 70 degrees F at the base of the mountain.
The granite on top of the mountain shows signs of being glaciated. Geologists claim that 15,000 to 30,000 years ago the ice sheet that covered all of Maine was one kilometer thick and therefore covered all the mountains in the state. No wonder the rocks in this photo are smoothed and rounded.

Thankyou for this gorgeous view!
nice one
We wre up there several years ago. I remember some tenacious pines that from where we stood looked strangely out of perspective, difficult to judge the size. It is a place not to miss when up in Maine. This is a Very nice scenic view.
Amazing view, so beautiful. I can see there are a few people on top. x

A most spectacular view, and a great shot, Bill! We've got to visit here sometime!
WOW what a wonderful scene.
So you hiked up the mountain and froze your hands and to make matters worse - no Cadillacs! But you did get a spectacular shot. What a view! And you can see Cadillacs anytime.
