Description

I finally achieved results in DS4.9 Iray that I feel rival what I was able to accomplish in previous versions of Reality / Luxrender. The "god rays" and shadows are purely from DAZ Studio and not post processed in. In this image I attempted to make use of all the possible variations of this effect... The direct light beams coming through the window. The surface light coming off of the candles in the corner. The surface light tucked into the sconces of the hallway lights. I used the following items: Aslan Court 1: Decor 1, April Hair, Haunted Mansion, Designer Tiles, Arabella 7 Pro Bundle, Render Studio Iray, and TerraDome 3 Iray. I would love to hear some feedback on the results!

I know doing a predominantly dark room or large area without full lighting can take time and often lead to very grainy renders, but you have achieved a very soft almost misty look that I find works wonderfully for the mood of this piece. The only slight detail I might point out is maybe the two lights under the stairs are a bit too bright. The sun coming through the upper window should not be competing with these artificial lights. Try to keep the detail, just dial back the intensity. Just a thought. NICE!!!

I agree. I spent a lot of time trying to find the light balance between all of the lights.

In the end I kept the hallway lights bright because of how dark the center of the image was without them. The sunlight clears the balcony and falls way off ahead on the floor. That was the best angle I could get to catch the figure and the railing due the roof being a bit bigger than the interior lobby. The over hang obscured the light at higher angles. And lower angles wouldn't pass through the figure.

That and the image started off as an experiment to compare the effects of the different lights. So I wanted to see what the directional sunlight lamp looked like compared to the sphere primitives with surface emission.

I did have to render it over night on my rendering rig. I also had Caustic and Architectural turned on. I am not sure if both were necessary, but I went overkill for the first run.

Thank you! This was an older interior set... I wanted to see if it still had merit in Iray. Took a bunch of re-texturing, but it was worth the effort. There was just a lot of little model things that were not important years ago when it was made.

Splendid ! I do agree with greywolf44. The 2 lights should have been dialed down a bit. Otherwise a fabulous render.

I agree. It was a left over artifact of my just experimenting. I ended up keeping it because I didn't want the big dark spot in the middle of the picture. :)

Thank you! I've tried to stray away from these sorts of scenes for a bit. I felt like I was getting into a rut. :)
