Today we see more and more breweries that start to make their own beer related to the part of the country where they start up. The Netherlands has around 70 breweries today. The hopbel is imported and makes the bitterness of the beer and is also a part of the flavor like the barley that is needed for the fermentation. This week I was in Middelburg and old town with a rich VOC history. In the middle of the shops I found this new brewery that for sure will do something with the briny tast of the new beer. What you see is the small brewery kettles to start the process of making beer. Before that all ingredients and water are put together. After that the fermentation will find place in other kettles. When the alcohol percentage is high enough it is pumped over to these kettles through seaweed filters, to clean it from all waste. From there it is bottled or going into the barrels for shipping. If you ever should visit the south of the Netherlands, there is a town called Wylre. where you can follow every step explained here by me at on of the oldest breweries called Brand Beer. 2 miles further there is a Trapisten monastery, where monks brew high alcohol percentage dark and sweet tasting beer.
