Description
Captain Rolf Gaines headed the expedition to chart habitable worlds in an unknown region of Space. It was to take two years and, on his return, he could retire on a full pension three years early. He should have remembered his Mother’s favorite saying: Men make plans so God can laugh.
A little over a year into the trip, they found a really promising moon. All the tests indicated it was very close to perfect for human based life. After running full-out for three days, the crew all retired to the sleeping quarters in the rear of the craft except for Captain Gaines and his First Mate, who stayed in the control room. While they were planning the next day’s activities, there was a loud explosion and the safety doors slammed down. A hole in the side of the space ship near the back section had just ended the lives of the sleeping crew and rendered the ship useless. Captain Gaines and his First Mate managed to get to the shuttle craft with some supplies and headed to the surface of the moon. Over the next several years, they managed to build a house above the ground to keep out the only native predator and learn enough to survive in the new environment. They had hopes that one day a ship might find them but until then, they lived one day at a time.
