Description
Mainly for Faemike.
This is a closer view of an empty skin which once contained a dragonfly in its larval form
After a year or two in the pond, predating on other insects and tadpoles, it climbs up a plant stem and makes the final metamorphosis into a beautiful winged insect.

Nature offers so many interesting things. Excellent shot, fantastic details!
Fascinating, lots to see round your pond.
Thank you for the wonderful explanation. Though the second photo looks like something that Shrek would eat as a snack (being in that spoon)
How cool to see this! And a great shot to boot!
I wouldn't see half the things I see in nature but for your gallery. This is a fascinating image but it must be so confusing for any creature that preys upon dragonflies. "It looked like a full meal but somehow I still feel so empty." I pulled this one out of the memory bank, these are also known as nymphs.
great find
