Description
The Steller's jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the blue jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the long-crested jay, mountain jay, and pine jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains. While it does not have as prominent a crest the Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) can be found west of the Rockies especially in south east British Columbia.

not a good capture but I wanted to share. was the first time for me to see this species in person. I had the camera adjusted for taking dark and bright landscapes and failed to readjust for this bird

a very pretty meeting !!!
It is sometimes difficult to change the camera to a new model, especially when he's shy! But this bird is gorgeous, and your capture very nice! Thanks for sharing, Richard!
Nice bird, your capture is not so bad as you think !
Great capture of this beauty
Exellent shot and bird..........
Cool shot that's best zoomed. We have them in our garden of the gods park. I could never snap a shot of them.
WOW...Marvelous capture my friend !!!
It is very difficult for a bird to choose a specific setting. A Bird with this dark plumage. Before you have set something on your camera, the bird is long fly away.
Quite the variation on the Jay bird. Still, a pretty nice photo. You have to grab them when you can! Well done! Bravo!
I wonder if he knew he was under observation. A rare capture!
he came within 6 feet of me. it was very interested in some food laying near by
How lovely that he came to visit you and that you got a capture of him. 😀
Great capture, like always!!
What a stunning creature and it really is a great capture!
Looks fine to me, seems like a feisty little critter, ready to fight for it's food :) Really a great shot!
It is a great capture!
Very cool photo! that's a new one on me. Al we have here are the common bluejays. Neat find and photo, Richard1
That a beautiful bird
I like those bird - common in the mountains here (CA). Also like the Clark's Nutcracker. Nice capture!
We have a lot of these where I live. There are a lot of scrub jays as well, and the two species seem to get along pretty well.
Wonderful capture
