Description
At the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Ron Goodwin Gala concert I thought I set my ISO to 3200, but it went onto auto and so I didn't really get the results I wanted.
So this was a digifiddle with a couple of layers, just for fun.
I was struck by the relationship of this gentleman to the big drum.

I still have galleries to catch up on, but I gotta come back here and do a few more here and there. (I'll be back for a longer session when it's all over.) I love this shot. I love it. The guy is peripatetic, yes: If you have a large percussion section (late Romantic, 20th C), either you better have several percussionists, or you gotta have a person who's willing to make the rounds. (The major orchestras---ie, with huge budgets---will have a number of percussionists. The smaller budgeted ones get a lotta mileage out of their percussionists.) So this guy's gonna do the rounds, poor blighter. But 1) what a huuuuge bass drum! I don't remember them that big. And 2) he's no slouch either. I love that you caught his belly as an outer ring to that drum. Great shot! And he's all boxed in there, with a whole mess of stuff to play. And you got a wind player on the right-bottom---gives the percussionist context. (That's a bass wind, from the size of it.) And btw, when one zooms all the way, they see the full array of your postwork: His coat looks like been left out to mold, and colonies have grown all over it. Très organic. Finally, the faces on these two, in full zoom---well, a strange artist, Ivan Albright, comes to mind.
