Great capture & sad history
Wow, I didn't know anything was recovered from the Sydney after her battle with the German merchant cruiser (raider) Kormoran on 19 Nov 1941. Sydney's captain thought he was dealing with a Dutch merchant ship. His ship was badly damaged by the opening German barrage, but crippled the Kormoran with return fire. Sydney sank suddenly after disengaging and sailing nearly out of sight from the Kormoran. Most of the German crew survived and became prisoners of war after being picked up by other ships. Both wrecks were discovered in 2008.
What a reminder!
Superb capture my friend. God bless.
