Wild Flower Goddess
such a rare sight
she blooms day and night
with petals that swirl and curl
and change colors
in sunlight
and mysteries unfurl
in shadows
and moonlight.
Oh yes
she is an exotic breed
Of course
some don't believe
such a wild flower exists
and say she is nothing more
than a fantasy.
Sadly they will never see
or feel her beauty
but for those
who can see
this flower will bloom
for eternity
and their spirits will forever be
as wild and free.

This is jaw dropping beautiful. An outstanding and beautiful image with wonderful vibrancy. I love your prose to go with her too. I would love her in my garden.

Oh yes, this is spectacular, as all your work is...stunning!
Your poem uses a lot of rhyme, which suits your feelings perfectly. Small units of meaning, and they feel jewel-like. I'll say something about its conclusion in a bit...Your alcohol ink work is applied, here, to a human head, and it is ex-quis-ite. (I hyphenated for emphasis.) I agree with the above. ("Absolutely gorgeous..." "spectacular, as all your work it...stunning," "jaw dropping beautiful...") (I sound like I'm doing blurbs for a movie poster! "Five Stars," the New York Times..."Unforgettable," the San Francisco Chronicle...) You've turned her flowering hair into a whole symphony of highly articulate, almost brittle petals and waves; they flow upwards like flames. And they have a brittle tactile "thin-ness" which is touchable, almost razor sharp. Such sharpness and clarity in each shape! And you use lighter pinks to highlight these petals, in a journey from dark to light (very chakric), and you have your usual beads and other jewel-like shapes, which you've been using a lot in your alcohol-based art. Those beads are one of those highly intuitive choices that seem to bubble up from the depths of you, and they're inexplicable, and they're absolutely right. And the periphery continues the flame like motion, almost like liquids blown across a surface (esp on the right). And you use green on the right periphery, a complementary color to pink (and therefore very contrasted). And her face---absorbed, in meditation---seems to emerge from the bottom, revealing her powers for us...maybe she'll move away after a few days, who knows; but she's sitting for us now, showing that in the depths of meditation, the whole universe can be on fire. Your side textures are almost stone or fine print paper---they have the feel of parchment too. Do you see how many worlds you create in one piece? And her face has glitter, and that wonderful ingrown flower pattern around the eyes. This oozes and undulates and with inner energy and power. And that flowering from her head is real 'inner stuff', Carol, powerful and central and symphonic. So if people didn't see this goddess, you made sure they would: Like a good photographer, you were sure to 'photograph' her in her most dramatic, explosive aspect. (I know it's a painting, but I like the analogy.) Explosive and huge-feeling. Spontaneous, yes, but masterful. It's exquisite.
Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Mark. You see and hear things in my art that always amaze me. I have now done a couple of flower goddesses and this particular one really felt like she was absorbing the essence of the flower. The beauty of flowers, especially up close, the textures, colors, and fragrance, has always kind of mesmerized me, putting me in a dream state. To me they are very healing and meditative, and I guess that's why I create so many paintings of them. I used to have many flowers in my California garden that I loved. Now that I am in the mountains, they are much more scarce and difficult to grow, so I appreciate them even more. Once, when my husband and I went to an open marketplace at the end of the day, one of the merchants was getting ready to close and had all his cut flowers on sales. On a whim, which was so like LJ, he bought every single flower that was left. The man gathered up hundreds of flowers, putting them in buckets, and home we went with these gigantic bouquets. It was such a euphoric moment, sitting on my patio in the middle of all these flowers, completely enveloped by their fragrance and beauty. This flower goddess painting reminds me of that precious memory.
