Thanks Mike!!, it really is a very interesting photo! The rock to the right looks like a resting 'Tup' which is what I would have called it when I lived in Cumbria but the shadow also throws a face into the mix. Is the bird a bird? or another interesting aspect of the rock? Brilliant capture!
That is not what I expected from the previous post. Never had any idea that it was driftwood. Being a traditionalist I have to say I like this one better.

I've been to one beach...once. In B.C. It was full of rocks and driftwood. And pine trees. I think there was sand under all the dead junk, I'm not sure.

I don't know which I like better---they're both terrific, Mike! I loved your manipulation, and now I love the original. You zeroed in on a wonderfully expressive bunch of 'beach stuff': logs, driftwood, pebbles, some shells I'm sure, grasses, sand...and your textures and smoothness in this shot are beautifully captured, and cropped for a painterly abstract. Wonderful piece. And I'm a big fan of seeing originals next to manipulations. I don't think I've ever done that in my gallery, I should do it one of these days. (I'm afraid the originals would sue me when they saw what I did to them...) Terrific photo.
