"Exquisite"
there are homeless people all over our city, and this image depicts many of the homeless enclaves you see behind tracks, under roadways, under bridges, etc. People will gather old couches and barrels and mirrors (as here) and make that their homes. You have all that here, plus the usual discards of urban back-alleys, and other essentials like toilet paper, random food, shoes, etc. Very real. And you've made her thin, almost emaciated, eating whatever she finds. Your sky and rain add to the sense of "being rained on" by life; and you put her between two high concrete walls, where homeless people often hide, because they're protected from the cruel side of the city. I worked with several missions in Chicago, getting people medical help, food, shelter, etc, and this is very accurate; it shows the despair that many homeless people feel, while the fire in the barrel holds its own against the rain, but bare;u. Very finely done, Ute, not an easy subject and not an easy visual, but you did it realistically and very expressively. It's good that you posted this during the holiday season, because there are many who live like this during the holidays, for whom the holidays are a terrible burden. You posted another such image a few days back; it's part of the season everyone should remember. Very sensitively done.

I once had a sixth grade student that was living out of a car. Fortunately, we were able to get her and her mother and two siblings some help and shelter after we found out.
