Description

A juvenile Herring Gull in the Lower Pleasure Gardens Bournemouth. I know some folk dislike them, but I have a soft spot for these birds.

just like the human teenager, they can be quite the pain in the arse, however, offer enough of the favorite food....

I understand they can be a nuisance at times but I've never had a problem with them. This one is a handsome and well groomed fellow. Perhaps he's one of those church going teenagers.

I suppose it's their large numbers that annoy people. If they were rare and only sighted occasionally I reckon they would be looked upon quite differently. Adult Shi*hawks with their brilliant white plumage are beautiful!

lol, Mark...maybe he carries a King James bible (James did a little known translation for birds...) A straight-forward and bold shot of one of the great scavengers of nature. You got its dark browns and grays very clearly, its fearsome beak, and the way it dominates its ground. A really strong shot of a gull, Andrea---with touches of softness too. Fine bird capture. I studied bird-song years ago, and the gull's is one of the least nuanced of all---suiting his loud, scavenging life. The term they use for gulls descending on their prey is "mobbing". I guess they're the mafiosa of the bird world...("You talkin' to me?") A pretty fearsome bunch---the longshoremen of the bird world. You know the expression "fuggeddabbouddit" ('forget about it' in brooklyn-ese)? Invented by a gull...

I watched a super programme about gulls a few years back. Really enjoyed & saw them in a different light. Super handsome fella.

He is very pretty. I love the juvie coloring on him. I've never thought of them as pests and like them also. Very nice shot!

I like them too, and look at all his beautiful teenage feathers! He's handsome and quite keen for a handout, I think...
