Hello:) I Wish you all a fine week !
Some days ago we had a strong rainy day. But Lisbon is called the city of the 7 hills. I live in one of them. Now, we don't notice this that much, due the construction, but when i was child i was able to see the river in many places, from the road and 'feel' the hill' also. However, now, even when there is great tempests, this high places, never are so sacrificed, like those near the river, where the water enters everywhere, doing great damages in homes and shops and we see cars and the chairs of the esplanades swim along the roads! Also, this kind of pavement (portuguese sidewalk) allows the water seep in the soil, what helps. There are places ,where this pavement was changed, due the costs of conservation and the damages are bigger. My neigborhood is still 'protected' by now...but now and then,we have a few announcements of new projects ...:(

I love your narrative, and I didn't know Lisboa was called City of 7 Hills (Cidade das Sete Colinas---see, I looked it up, lol). I understand how tall buildings "erase" the hills from your sight...that's a shame, because it's wonderful to look across a great city, and see those hills. (I lived in Worcester, Massachusetts---not a great city, but it had lots of hills, and you could see them from many places and they were beautiful.) I also didn't realize that you had so many floods in Lisboa, especially in the low areas...And I didn't know that your sidewalks (calçada portuguesa---I looked it up again!) allowed water to seep into the soil, which of course helps grandly, after heavy rains. And yes, conserving such sidewalks would be a massive job. Much harder than conserving big slabs of concrete. I love your narratives, and your memories, Ana...this is a lovely upload.
your photograph is beautiful...it's beautiful to see the clear water in the middle of all those stones; and to see those clean, simple walls reflected in the water, next to all the stones around the reflection: a simple and beautiful contrast. And I love the light on the cobblestones, it gives white and blue hues to the otherwise grayish stones. Composition-wise, your photo is a simple, almost minimalista composition, with sidewalk, street and puddle...you do these compositions beautifully. (In zoom, your compositions fill up the screen and feel almost like beautiful abstract art.) The diagonal of the sidewalk is beautiful too...Your painting and drawing is, of course, very deep and masterful. But you have such a natural sense with the camera, it's always a treat when you share some of your photographs...Thank you for coming here once more, Ana, to give us all a hug, and to share more pieces of your city and your memories. I love this upload. And I wish you a blessed and peaceful month, in return, and send my love and wishes to you always. It is such a good idea to have permeable road surfaces. Our council has promised to make the car parks like this, but they are prone to not keeping promises! A most interesting photo, Ana!
