Description
As the night’s chill settled in Coren watched the small, dark cloaked figure trudge unsteadily through the snowy forest, apparently unaware of his presence. Few ventured into the woodlands in the dead of winter, and from the way the figure huddled in its thin cloak, whoever it was, seemed ill prepared to do so.
He was about to turn back to his cabin, when he saw the figure stumble down the embankment of the frozen stream. Tossing aside his armload of fire wood, he raced forward as the figure unknowing staggered out onto the thin ice and almost instantly crashed through; letting out a shrill, clearly feminine, shriek as she plunged into the frigid water.
Seeing her get swept under the ice by the swift current, he knew she had only seconds and crashed headlong into the stream; intercepting her, but plunging into the freezing water himself. Seizing hold of her as he stood against the current, Coren felt the icy cold sapping his strength quickly, but managed to haul the soaked figure to the bank.
“Are you alright?” he gasped, staggering up the steep embankment with her limp form cradled in his arms, but Sabrae could only manage a weak moan in response as she felt herself succumbing to the icy dark that flooded in on her mind. Then her hood fell back revealing her snow white hair, stunningly beautiful features cast in ink black skin and ruby eyes which fluttered closed as her head rolled back limply while she barely registered his shocked cry; “A drow… here!?!”
Knowing that they would both freeze to death in minutes, he trudged the few dozen yards to his cabin; his surprise outmatched by his survival instincts. Bursting through the heavy wooden door, the heat hit him like a wall, but he managed to stumble forward far enough to collapse onto the fur covered bed by the roaring fire, pinning the her slender form beneath him.
Although his body screamed to just lie there and die, he struggled back to his feet and staggered to the door, slamming it against the deadly cold. Then, turning back to Sabrae, he saw her stir and struggle to sit up, her ruby eyes not quite as glassy as they roamed about the small space before settling upon him.
“Get out of those cloths!” Coren ordered, his strength starting to return, as he strip out of the near frozen, soaked clothing that clung to him, chilling him to the bone.
Sabrae hesitated for a moment, her mind still numb from the bitter cold and awhirl from the rapid chain of events which landed her in a strange human’s bed who demanded she disrobe before him, but then she realized that her wet cloths were drawing the warmth out of her body and started to franticly strip as well.
Against his will, Coren couldn’t help but glace at her as she bared more and more of her lithesome form, and found that he liked what he saw. However, she seemed to have no qualms about admiring him as he rapidly revealed his lean, muscular form; starring wide eyed when he stripped off his breeches with an approving, but astonished, smile.
