Description
Deilephila elpenor . It has a trunk-like snout which gives the insect its name, which is retracted when disturbed into the eye-spot region as here.
It feeds on willowherbs and bedstraws and also like fuschias. The adult like honeysuckle.

Absolutely fascinating Andrea.
It´s a funny little creature with a big fake head, which can scare away the enemy :-) Great shot, Andrea.
Fascinating creature!
We don't have these in our neck of the woods !
Great shots of this strange looking caterpillar Andrea !
cool find!
Wonderful capture Andrea. God bless.
A very nice shot - there seems to have been quite a lot of these about this year !
Two awesome shots! I've never seen one of these.
something only a mother could love
This has got to be the oddest looking creature I have ever seen in your gallery. And it looks pretty grumpy as well. The adult also looks unusual. A terrific pair of images.
Strange and wonderful!
He's very chunky!!
This is so interesting to watch, Andrea. I've never seen such one here.
Makes one wonder how one so ugly can turn into the beautiful moth.
