Description
Bill and I spent about nine hours in Yellowstone National Park today, and will go back tomorrow to see more. The park is a weird mix of "OMG this is amazing and I've never seen anything like it" and "How many more miles of the same view will we see before we get to something more photogenic?" So we were alternately thrilled and bored. Yellowstone is SO big though, that there are bound to be stretches where the scenery never changes.
One of our first stops was along the Madison River, just to enjoy the view and to watch the fly fishermen. I was happy to get this shot, with the sunlight picking out his line in the classic fly fishing casting arc.

Here's a Renderosity update for you, in case you missed it:
The galleries now have page numbers! With the exception of the "What's New" gallery, which still has infinite scroll, all the galleries now have page numbers at the bottom. A lot of people complained and kept complaining, and it's now been fixed. "What's New" won't get page numbers ... it's being left as it is ... but when you browse the Photography Gallery now, you won't get that annoying circle while it loads another set of images.

This person looks a llike a ghost in that strong light catching his back, but he is certainly having a lovely peaceful time, which I'm told is what fishing is about. I constantly forget about the scale of the landscapes in the USA. Our National Parks are like smallholdings in comparison.

The fisherman's line makes the photo for me. I got several of similar pictures but without the line. That means I got a half dozen pictures of guys standing in the river (ho-hum).
Good timing to get the arc. Love the lighting in this shot & it has a kind of iconic feel to it, like it could be a postcard or on the cover of a fishing magazine. I can understand your reaction to Yellowstone - it is very unique & spectacular in many ways, but also very big & it takes a lot of time to get from one section of the park to another...

never saw some one fly fish before. they do not do that here. if you walk in to the river like this here you be next deep in mud .
This is a bucket list location I'll never get to see, so very happy to see your image. Catching the light on the line is superb! (Oh, btw, google tour boats for seeing whooping cranes for the next time you go to S. TX)

I'm not much on fishing, but I sure would like to take a swim in that water... it looks so refreshingly cool.
the only question I have is what do they do with the flies they catch? any good recipes?
