Description
Captured 12/25/14 @ 8:40 am, about 2.5 miles from home.
This large tarpaulin, with sandbags placed on top to keep it in place, stretched from the side of a newly constructed freeway overpass bridge downward several yards to the edge of a sidewalk. The tarpaulin, along with others, covered at least two blocks. They may have been put there to prevent the loose soil from the construction site from blowing across the street at the left onto the local residences. Just a guess, and I may be completely wrong as to their purpose. I'll go back sometime and check it out. In any event, I like the light and shadow contrasts of the many striations in this pic.

AMAZING and fabulous shot !!!
brilliant !!!
Kind of looks like turtles riding on ocean waves. Well seen & captured...
If you hadn't said what it was I might almost have thought it was water...love the light and the texture of this big tarp. I guess it's to keep the dirt from blowing away? Because they sure as heck aren't protecting it from rainfall, as you get so little down there. Well spotted and a wonderful shot!
Your quality of light and shadow, form and texture are just wonderful here, Harry! Very impressive image!!
WOW! So well seen and captured. I really like this shot. :)
Like Denise, I too thought this was water at first: In full view, it could be the rushing waves of water over a precipice. Wonderful capture. And wonderful capture of silken muddy "waves"---here, produced by plastic! Those sandbags holding down the tarp do seem like turtles (photosynthesis), climbing up the waters like salmon. And your pov is spot on---bringing us right into the waves, with a patch of road in the background to suddenly remind us that this is a city street. Because, without that background, we could easily be on the rapids of a river. You caught light here beautifully, Harry. And your zeroing-in closeup makes its rush and whoosh palpable. Terrific work.
