Gold King Mine Ghost Town Jerome, Arizona October, 2013 I know it doesn't seem like it, looking at these pictures of rusty vehicles and random bits and pieces of history, but the Gold King Mine Ghost Town where all this lovely rust is located is basically an outdoor curated museum. Everything at the "Town" was brought in and placed in a way that makes sense. There's a flow to the pathways that allows you to see everything, just like any car museum. The guy who is responsible for all this looks like an old, down-on-his-luck prospector, but he bought all the vehicles and paid to have them brought to a relatively remote location in Arizona, so he can't be doing all that bad! If there's a tool box with old tools sitting next to an old truck with the hood up, and it looks like someone just walked away for a minute to grab a bite of lunch, then the curator did a good job. Dusty bits of this and that in an old building didn't just get left that way. The building was moved from somewhere else, set up, populated with old stuff, and left to acquire its own natural patina. And, just like any other museum, you enter and leave through a gift shop. There are plenty of museums dedicated to restored, pristine, vintage, classic vehicles. The Gold King Mine Ghost Town is dedicated to the natural deterioration of history.
