Yesterday Bill (bmac62) and I got together with Denise (MrsRatbag) and Lucinda (myrrhluz) and Lucinda's son, James. We went to a couple of parks, had lunch at Trent & David's (my brother and his husband), and generally had a terrific time.
There are several wildfires burning on the east side of the mountains here in Washington State, and the smoke has blown over in this direction. The smell is quite pronounced, and the air has been so hazy it has a profound effect on the light. We were in the woods at about 11:00 am, and the light looked like it was 5:00 in the afternoon. We're not in any danger over here. The fires all tend to start on the dry side of the mountain range that bisects this area, and we're on the wet side. It's just the smoke we're dealing with, not the fire.
President Obama has declared a state of emergency for Washington State due to all the wildfires here, by the way. We've got nearly half a million acres of forest burning or already burned so far this year, which is an all-time record.

This is gorgeous, and you caught that wonderful light absolutely! I'm still looking through all my shots (near 600!!!) from yesterday. It will be a while before I post, though, not until they fix the thumbnail issue.
The words 'deep', 'rich' and 'mysterious' seem to apply here. A superb atmosphere. I love the light on the tree. California is also on fire. Hoping El Nino will help when it arrives.

This is both strange and familiar. As you know we share a similar climate, and I live in a town famous for pines and other conifers. Yet this makes me feel as if I am about to find I'm lost.
Thankfully we know you weren't!

I am really sorry, so much forest is burning down over there. It is so sad when you get attacked so badly of mother nature. But this is a fabulous shot with this mysterious light.
I have thought about our RR friends in WA and OR.... glad that you and Bill are safe and hope that continues. Lovely image, Tara and how great that you got to have a day out with special friends!

Yeah, those fires are awful. I was chatting with Faemike on the phone Saturday, and he was teling me about all the smoke and haze in the air.
