Description
The Annenberg Garden (known as Sunnylands) is an interesting combination of formal planting styles and native vegetation. So they do things like plant little barrel cactus plants in a grid, and then surround the planting bed with a grass lawn. I took as many shots as I could at angles that minimized that look! LOL!
It's a beautiful place, but it left me feeling a little odd. Sort of like planting scotch broom and dandilions and ferns in a formal bed in a temperate climate, with a concrete sidewalk separating it from the lawn.
Anyway ... they were worth shooting, nevertheless. I think I'll make you look at one more after this. :P

I like gardens like this & I really like your composition. It's got a great vertical thrust to it & you've also caught it at a time of day when the shadows become a strong element that balances out the lightness of the cacti. I also got a kick out of Andrea's comment - "mother-in-law chair" creates such a funny image in my mind...

I've not seen as many erections in a long time - these are fabulous and the balls too.
Very interesting capture. I'm not all that fond of desert plants, but there is a lot of beauty in the desert.

That does sound like an interesting way to lay out a garden. I find these photos of cactus actually quite appealing, Tara. At least from a distance! LOL
