Description
The tiles on the Space Shuttle 'Discovery' are part of the Thermal Protection System (TPS). There are seven different materials in varying locations based on the heat protection required during re-entry. Four of those materials are reusable tiles. The entire shuttle is covered with these materials.
I was surprised how rough these tiles looked, sort of reminded me of the walls of the Colosseum in Rome.
