I really like your paintings Jock - they display what is going on in small town America!
What a stunningly presented painting. I love the expression that you could give the scene. Really clever and great art, Jock.
when you originally posted these small paintings, I thought of how I'd never be able to get the detail and expression you get, even if I painted mine 3 times as big. Another little jewel of small dimensions. You have the serious inner-absorption of the guitar player, and you have his spread-out stance---how his legs spread out in the way guitarists sit when they're involved in their music. I love his blank gaze---that means he's totally into his music. And you have the guitar as the center of his torso. (And I love the white strokes for the tuning pins, against that deep black and brown.) Plus the window behind him is painted with luminous white strokes and very deep blacks---this makes it glow. And you've used yellows in the wall so nicely. It's such an expressive painting---you know, so few painters in history painted musicians well: I mean, so few. You are a master with musicians. One would think you were a musician from the minute you came out of the womb: You just "know" musicians, and how they feel and think and play. Also, so many artists portray musicians with big smiles as they play---as if they have to "broadcast" their happiness through greeting-card smiles. But real musicians are totally different: They're immersed in their music, they're not smiling most of the time. And you capture that immersion all the time. You don't shy away from the strange, other-worldly expressions musicians get as they play. Another little jewel from you, Jock.
