Greetings Folks, Everyone in this Country used to moan and joke about British Rail.. But, in this time of Foreign franchises, (mainly French and German), that don't run because its the wrong kind of 'heat' or 'leaves on the line', yes, really folks, I remember when British Rail engines pulled Pullman coaches like these through all weathers! This was taken (believe it not) inside the National Railway Museum, York.. The largest Railway Museum in the world!! Now looking like an actual platform, its SO COOL. And one other thing as well, inside the coach, a British Rail Pullman, there was more room, more luggage space, bigger seats AND they were more comfortable! So I ask you Better Days? The engine you just see is 'The Royal Scot'.. I'll show a better picture soon, along with others.. New series coming up LOL Legends news : 13 Spitfires already booked! Two Corsairs, the Blenheim will fly.. Cosford news : Vulcan, F-16, F-18, Typhoon, Bulldog Meteor NF11, Anson and the TRS2 and Jaguars will be static.. (Jaguars normally taxi by). Enjoy Rob

Rode in a few of these back in the day, sadly just over priced sardine cans these days.... I really must make an effort to visit this place, it's a lot closer to me than to you.....looking forward to more from here....

I too remember these during the 1970's. We used to visit my aunt in London and would take the train to St Pancras then the tube. I am fond of these carriages, the only thing that worried me about them is the doors looked like they would pop open any second. They never seemed to fit well and would rattle the whole way there. I also remember that old British Rail logo too. My favourite trains were the old British Rail Class 40.

I remember riding a train like this from the ferry in Harwich to London (Liverpool Station if I recall correctly) when I came to England in 1969. As you say, more space for luggage and comfortable. And, yes, the old British Rail symbol. And ran on time. I can tell you, though we don't have a European Onion (purposely misspelled) franchise here in Sweden, the trains don't run well due to leaves on track, snow on track, frozen switches, etc. etc. etc... But the old trains ran in all weather. Why? Look at the undersides of modern engines and coaches - jammed FULL of boxes with all kinds of things that are easily damaged. Didn't exist in the old trains! And the modern fragilities are made - in Sweden where there's lots of snow further up north. The purchased Italian motor coaches in the early 1980s were severely criticized for break-downs due to all the clutter on their undersides. Did Swedish Rail learn from that mistake? No, their engineers went ahead and copied the stupid mistakes. Shows what they have between their ears! Nice photo of a beautiful train! Too bad they're out of use! :-)

Great pic and Pullman cars were the gold standard for all passengers. They made them near where I grew up in Chicago, BTW.

Funny-looking arplanes, amigo. But great-looking trains. I recall my surprise when we returned to the Balmer area and saw the new livery on the CSX engines... shades of BR! andI do mean shades, even the yellow had turned into the near-gold color on these guys. No Pullman coaches though, just freight.
