Description
I have taken very few photos recently what with one thing and another, as the saying goes.
So here is another of one of my favourite flies: I only learned this week that it is a specialist pollinator of Primroses, hence that long proboscis.
Here is a pic of it in action that I took last year

Fantastic macro shot Andrea ! The details are amazing.
Wow, very impressive.
Pretty wings, lovely capture.
I only ever saw one of these in the Russia dock woodland In Rotherhithe, it was a brief encounter too, it flew righ past me and settles on a wall, suffice it to say it buggered off when i wanted to capture it :) Great shots here Andrea.
Nice Close-up!
I'm still reading it as Beefy. Come to think of it, it is rather beefy. The one on the flower is even better. Superb close ups. I am in awe with your ability to capture them.
WOW! very cool capture Andrea, Like Mark, I keep reading it as beefy, where the L is the L?
That is a dangerous-looking beak it's got there...glad it's made for primroses!
Your information has finally driven me to Wikipedia - a very interesting insect and wonderful photos!
What a terrific monster !!!!!!
Excellent shot as they all are of your fly Andrea.
They are such cool little creatures, I haven't seen one in a few years. Nice shot.
