Description
Captured 5/18/12, at the beautiful Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in not-so-beautiful South El Monte, California.
In all of my bird photography experience I never did see such a medley of patchwork colors and patterns on duckies such as these guys, shown at rest. Enough to go quackers over. I was fortunate to record them mostly in the sunlight.
ZOOM at all costs.
Have a nice day.

Those are really quite striking; I can't tell if they are mixed breed/mutt ducks or just juveniles getting their adult feather patterns. Whatever, an amazing find and truly excellent capture, Harry!
Great shot! Very colorful ducks!

Marvelous birds ans colors... Outstanding capture my friend !!!
Very nice capture.
Two nice ducks !
splendid capture of these two ducks !!! pretty and sweet birds !!!
Wonderful photo! I too have not noticed ducks that seemed to be so spotty in their coloration. Especially on their heads.
Denise said she couldn't tell if these were mutt-ducks---I didn't even know there WERE mutt-ducks, lol. Maybe there are! But yes, they're a really messed up lot. I've never seen patterns like that either. It reminds me of the patchwork clothes from the 70s---quickly going out of style, I might add. Great find, and as a picture, the two ducks are finely lined-up and composed in your frame/crop. And strong presence of all the varieties of feathers. (I assume they're related, because they both have that blue patch in the same spot.) A great find. I've seen tons of ducks and geese on Lake Michigan, but never seen anything like these...
