Description
Gyromitra esculenta.
It comes up every spring next to my greenhouse in little family groups which get bigger every year. It like our sandy soil and is usually found in coniferous woodland which is what my garden once was!
Another example, rather paler

So that's where I left my brain !! Nice one Andrea.
It does look a bit brainey :o))))
It does look like someone left their brain behind! What a cool fungus and lucky you to have them every year!
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
Very brainy looking fungus, hope it doesn't start moving. Smiles. Looks like it should belong in a Science Lab. Awesome conversation piece, thanks for sharing Andrea.
Yikes! Well, everyone has already done the brain thing so I'll just ask, they grow bigger each year? Are you sure they aren't up to something sinister? Morels are quite values. Are these edible as well? (Sorry, I couldn't come up with a smart remark about the Morel of the story.)

Very interesting convoluted structures...
They are so unique! So this is where used up brains are sent!
Someone call Igor and tell him where the brains are at. Great capture
Weird looking neat stuff...:)))
Looks like something out of Quatermass and the Pit just don't get to close.
Quite interesting musrooms.
Excellent shot, Andrea :)
