Description
One of a small herd of cattle belonging to a neighbor up the road. Actually, it's only three - so does that qualify as a herd? Some of the definitions I found online specify a "large" group of animals, but others don't - like this one:
"A group of cattle or other domestic animals of a single kind kept together for a specific purpose."
Anyway, I liked the look of their shaggy coats...

Very nice! Under normal use of the term a herd is any number of animals of a single kind that keep or are kept together... so as long as there's more than one it could technically be called a herd. However, I am sure that various beaucratic governmental entities have it defined in some ways that require reading many documents full of circuitous subsections and conflicting legaleese to determine if its a herd ;)
