Description
Two of the many retired Greyhounds that were at Crufts. The retired Greyhound rescue etc have stalls, showing how lovely these retired dogs are. These two were certainly not bothered by all the hype going on around them.
There has been so much controversy about this years Crufts, with the Jaggar being poisened, the best in show winner being put on & taken off the table by holding his tail & under his neck. (people are calling & signing petitions for the Scottie to be disqualified) The Canadian handler in the obedience hitting his dog in the car park. Plus other dogs being ill.
Now, I agree the Scottie should NOT have been taken off the table in this way (a lot of terriers are handled this way, that doesn't make it right). If the Canadian dog was hit in the car park because he wasn't doing his training right something should definately be done about that. Please don't get me wrong I get cross with the girls (I don't hit them, I may get hold of the hair either side of their face & say "Oye, what do you think you are doing") they know when I am cross by the sound of my voice, plus I am NOT always shouting at them so when I do they think "Ooooh flip she is cross now, better do as we are told"
BUT, I find far worse things in the world happening to dogs, than dog shows. Being skinned alive for food, (they are cramped in small cages with loads of other dogs, they must be terrified,) breeding until the poor bitch is on her last legs, her puppies sold in ill health to people who haven't a clue, dogs shut in kennels day in day out, dogs being taught to fight other dogs. Don't get me started on the greyhounds sent to Spain after racing here!!!!!!
People call PEDIGREE dog breeders (yes there are good & bad, I will NOT dispute that) but people are jumping on the band wagon & breeding breeds that should NOT go together & calling them DESIGNER dogs, NO they are cross breeds & you are paying 100's of pounds for a put together name.
There I go again on a rant, (sorry cannot help it, hate any animal being abused). Well my girls are stretched out on the settee, walked, fed & watered, its a beautiful day & they are resting before another walk & more food.

I don't know... I think (just a thought) that yes, there are worse things happening to dogs world-wide. But, the big fancy dog shows, the elite people with their special dogs... all that... they are the standard by which the entire dog world watches, and if they fail to treat their dogs right... and to set the example.. well then, that's just bad news for the dog community.
Barbara, this is a wonderful photo of these greyhounds and I'm glad people are trying to help them. I agree with your thoughts on the treatment of dogs throughout the world.
Beautiful photo of the greyhounds. I fully agree with your rant. with those that abuse their dogs, it makes you wonder what they do to their children
I agree with all you say, Barbara. I have friends with up to seven rescued Spanish Galgos. I have never heard of UK greyhounds being sent out there, we spends lots of money fetching them in FROM there!
I totally agree with all your comments here!! Re the retired greyhounds - we've considered the possibility of rescuing one at some point in our future :)
I agree with what has been said but I also get very upset at where much of the breeding has taken some of the breeds, The Cavalier King Charles for an example where they can have fits because their scull is just too small. I used to have pedigree dogs in the past but never again. My present dog is a Lurcher from a rescue centre, a fantastic dog who loves to run in the forest but is equally at home stretched out on a massive bean bag, as active as the dogs shown here.
I agree with your rant, and could go on to say much much more, but would also like to stick up for the many good and respected dog breeders here in the UK who give their all for the betterment of their respective breeds, and care for their dogs extremely well. It is the few bad people and so called breeders that give pedigree dogs and their breeders a bad name sadly. Love the greyhounds they are a wonderful breed of dog, the pic is perfect of them. hugs and love xxxxxxxxxx
The sure do look relaxed!
Well put and well said Barbara. I totally agree with your rant 100%. Also agree with Jane's optimistic viewpoints. What a perfect picture of these "Cool Dogs" relaxing and not being bothered by all surrounding the hum drum ! xx oo
Greyhound adoptions are a big thing over here. They run on the beach in the early morning and seem to be happy in their new life! Beautiful animals!!!! It is OK to rant - I learned some things reading your narrative tonight!
