Description
Sorry, no flowers in this one. This beauty had experienced engine trouble, forcing it to land on graveled soil, where I captured it back on 5/3/07, inside the Pavilion of Wings, a temporary adjunct to the beautiful Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles, California.

the problem of flying long distance non-stop ... is perfectly illustrated by the butterfly .... will do you landing, if something goes wrong !!!
Nice capture of this poor little Monarch butterfly, Harry.
Fantastic shot...!!!
Very beautiful butter fly and shot my friiend !!!
Wow, the wings look a bit battered on close inspection; I wouldn't think life in the butterfly pavilion would be so hazardous, but who knows what sort of brutality they exert on each other, eh? A beautiful butterfly and excellent clarity in this shot, Harry!
beautiful butterfly
Looking a bit battered and worn around the edges.. Still a very fine capture, nice of the butterfly to pose like this. Rob
some people (rob and denise) saw the battered parts of the wings. I guess that's to be expected when you fly a lot. But it still has great dignity and beauty, and your capture is almost for a scientific study: It sits there splayed for you, with real beauty against that stark "khaki" gravel. And in such bleached light, which makes it feel almost flat. The antennae are fine contrast to the mass of its body (with wings). And we can see the face too. A classic shot, beautiful shadow, very well cantered, with an almost print feel. Striking capture. Glad you could capture it before the butterfly flew away. It's almost as if it posed for you. Harry, I'm at a little over an hour now, and I have to move on. But I think I did 10 today, which is good for me, for an hour. And it was a pleasure as always. I'll be back for more soon. And you continue to do fine work with pics dating back 7 and 8 years. This is one example.
