Description
What type of shoes does a frog wear?
Open toad.
Now that that’s out of the way, where were we?
Oh, yes, I had just left Monument Valley early in the morning and was on my way to visit Bryce Canyon. After a five hour drive I pulled into the thriving metropolis of Panguitch. Panguitch means ‘Big Fish’ in the Ute Indian language. Panguitch is a town of 1,500 souls. It has a dozen motels, a Subway sandwich shop, a dollar store and a really nice Italian restaurant run by the local Mormon youth organization.
On my first night away from home I had stayed at a motel in St. George run by a family from India. From there I traveled to Moab where I stayed in a motel run by a family from India. In Monument Valley I stayed with an actual American Indian family. I checked into a motel just south of town run by, you guessed it, a family from India.
The top image shows the town’s main street. On the bottom is their handsome courthouse. Note the big fish weathervane.
