Greetings Folks,
Not Duxford! No, this is Hanger One at RAF Cosford, the second and larger half of the RAF Collection.. It is also an operational RAF Airfield and has an airshow every year..
Anyway, the aircraft that is Legends this time is the Hawker Siddeley Andover E3A, previously made by and designed by Avro..
The Andover was developed from the Avro 748 airliner to meet the requirement for Short Take-off & Landing (STOL) transport aircraft to operate in the trooping, paratrooping, airdropping, freighting and casevac roles. The modified aircraft incorporates a hydraulic kneeling arrangement in the main undercarriage to allow the rear loading door to adjust to any truckbed height.
This aircraft was one of an order for 31 C.1 type placed in 1967, it was completed in May that year and delivered to No 46 RAF Transport Command, originally painted sand/ brown/ black/ white.. It was used by RAF Germany for Transport and casualty evac.
In July 1969 No 46 Squadron went into 'combat', involved in ACE mobile force during unrest on the Island of Anguila.
The aircraft is powered by two Rolls-Royce Dart engines. It has an operational range of 374miles with a maximum payload of 14750lbs of freight. It has a maximum speed of 320mph at 15000ft.
The aircraft displayed was one of seven modified from the basic CMkI aircraft for use in navaid calibration.
But the thing is, what else can you spot in this packed hanger! And this is hanger 1 of 4..
Bonus points for the engines in the bottom right (I do know one lol)

Cool stuff! Let's see: Armstrong-Whitworth Argosy 4-engine transport. Scottish Aviation Bulldog single-engine trainer. Little orange Auster on skis in the back. Small jet trainer waaay in the back under the Argosy's wing... maybe a Provost? Engines... no idea. The larger is a radial of some sort. The smaller might be a really old rotary?

Nice picture, Rob. I think Tamarrion has a lot of points here, but he forgot the one under de Argosy wing behind the cockpit of the Andover. Looks like an Avro c.21 Anson to me ? Peter

Great POV in this shot of Hangar 1 with aircraft I am absolutely unfamiliar with, mate. I like the huge canopy and paint job on that little guy at the bottom. And I love your hangar photos, not only because of the beautiful aeroplanes, but also because of the inside structure of the buildings, with all the depth, perspective and geometric patterns they convey.

Hi Folks, OK, here we go, the engine is....a Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah, WW2 engine used on many training aircraft (Anson etc). From the Andover, going clockwise downwards, we have the Scottish Avation Bulldog, Folland Gnat (Red Arrow aircraft), Auster T7 (more later, very famous one), Helicopter tail seen top left, Bristol Sycamore, Jet Provest (both Mks), Armstrong-Whitworth Argosy, and yes that's a Avro Anson T21 in there top right.. Well done those who spotted them. Yes there will be more from all hangers. Rob

NOT my last by a long shot.....this was a fun PACKED day, so much to see and plenty to go back and check again....
