Antique cash register
Mackay Mansion

Swag: Did you steal the money out of that cash register?
Swag: The festoon-y garlands all over the side.
Anybody interested in seeing this in color?

Yes please! While not all of it is to my taste I always appreciate the amount of effort and art that went into creating even the most pedestrian items.
... and why not ? - could be brass ? in my pocket ! (I don't know if you are familiar with 'The Pretenders' ?) ;P I do like the sideways light-source, showing up those amazing ornamental details - vividly ... BB PS - I hope your sight is to some degree restored again ? - going by what I am seeing here, you are doing fine :))
Yes by all means do color. I want to see if the polished metal is brass, steel or ?. Is the front black steel? I know, too many question. If you do color, so easy to answer!! Great capture.
Impressive capture of this vigorous machine. I love the B/W and the contrast light/darkness, but YES:)))) i would love to see:) meanwhile, i imagine how it can be...
There was a style to making things that doesn't exist today. Doubt we will ever see the likes again.
We've gone to plastic and circuits and dropped the art, that art that separates us from the rest of the little animals.... and yes, I'd love to see this in colour BTW! Great capture and presentation
Oh, I'll bet this is full of really warm, nice colors. In black and white it's equally fantastic. This has a nice Victorian era vibe to it since Victorian era swag had that fancy, curly, vine-shaped detailing. The "ancient" Victorians would have put vine squiggles on their toast if they knew how. The balance of light and shadow really makes this shot, and the shapes are really wonderful in that...well...in that ornamental way. I love that great, big "N" proudly asserting itself in a wreath of squiggles that also serves as a pedestal. Swag: fun stuff, ain't it? I'm inordinately glad that this isn't the dark side of swag...the kind that reveals boxer shorts underneath. This kind is much, much better! I'd love to see this in color, even though it's fantastic in black and white.
I always wanted to run one of these old things; when I was a kid, I got a toy one for my birthday and oh wow, did I LOVE it. Course the money wasn't real, but I didn't care, I thought I was pretty cool. This one is gorgeous!!
Amazing Detail!!! The black and white really gives it an antique feel and just waiting for Billy the Kid to say "Give me all your money" Yes, a color view would be awesome too!!
Fantastic capture !!!!
Brilliant! And yes please!
Having seen in mono I think yes and why not.
I agree with anaber :)
The B/W makes more fascinating this antique cash register! Stunning picture! :)
I would love to see the coloured version. Superb capture and post work Tara. God bless.
There was a time when even utilitarian things were made with love and care, and were truly works of art. This photo certainly reflects that time, Tara. What a beauty! The lighting really brings out the detail in this lovely old register. I'd love to see this is color, but the B&W looks so perfect for this.
Your eye is amazing. This is incredible, and I love it in B&W, but I'd love to see the colour too!
Brightly beautiful.
They must have been more accurate and faster, compared to those computerized ones in the supermarket. Solidity and reliability - this is what comes on mind first. Great image, Tara!
Beautiful as is but if have in color too would love to compare the two!
Your lighting brings out the elegant filigree design perfectly...
Your treatment brings out the mystery and nostalgia of these old beasts. The dark front, with only outlines visible, is perfect---makes this feel cloaked in the past. And the lit portion is beautiful, with all that metal work; and, by letting it bask in light, we get the glory of the thing. A simple haunting image, doused in darkness, and singing. Really nice detail on the lit side--ie, the soot, shadow, etc. As you may know, "festoon" (I think that's such a silly sounding word!) comes from the same root as "festive," and simply meant 'festive decoration'...but somehow it sounds like something straight out of the old west, or like something you'd do to a petty criminal (he's festooned till tuesday..."). A tall, beautiful image, and you got the spirit of the thing right on. (And those keys are really steep! Did you ever work in retail? Imagine having to punch in numbers all day, with your wrist nearly perpendicular to the table! That had to be rough on the clerk!)
