Description
This poem may only relate to the older generation because nowdays westerns are not what the younger generation has grown up watching like it was back in my days. I wrote this poem for my husband & from his point of view.
Cowboys
My heroes were always cowboys,
My childhood hours spent in movie theaters.
Now after all those years have passed,
I wonder where have all the cowboys gone.
Nothing made on film today can compare
To all of yesteryear’s old western films.
Today’s heroes just don’t measure up with
John Wayne, Randolph Scott or Dean Martin.
Robert Mitchum, Gene Autry and Roy Rodgers
Were always so tall in the saddle.
Bad guys could run but couldn’t escape,
And goodness would always save the day.
The hero always had a humorous sidekick like,
Walter Breenan, Gabby Hayes or Fuzzy St. John
And a beautiful woman to rescue like,
Maureen O’Hara, Susan Hayward or Dale Evans
Those hard riding, fast shooting heroes
Are now riding that big open range in Heaven.
I still see them on “The Western Channel,”
And my heroes will always be cowboys.

This poem I dedicate to my husband Don.
His heroes were always “Cowboys” and I
Wrote this poem about him from his point of
View. He still watches the twenty four hour
Western Channel.
