Very nicely done.

(I never knew that Juvenal was called "Giovenale" in Italy.) I remember so little of my Latin writing courses years ago, but I do remember this passage, where Juvenal/Giovenale writes how the Roman government has sunken into a low place, catering to the lower instincts of the people by giving them 'breads and circuses'...it was one of his satires, right? Anyway, I remember how that phrase became the calling-card for every instance, since. (U.S. politics is DROWNING in breads and circuses right now...a real circus show...) As for the image: I love how you depict this: The 'bread' is a huuuuuuuge sandwich behind the lady. It's massive. It takes over her world. The circuses are well-chosen samples of the current 'good life'...You have a gigantic soccer ball, an equally gigantic remote---it's really big, lol! Two (I think two) Mac screens. Maybe one's an iPad...Her shoes bend back over her, with those ultra clean soles. (It's a striking center of focus.) Her stockings and voluptuous pose are meant, I assume, to be a big circus. (With a colorful drink in her hands.) You've got cards, and "wings of love"---a typical name for a perfume. And behind it all, a face peering in like an outsider looking in, and he/she could be any number of things: Envious of the breads and circuses that maybe others can't get...Or amazed at the craziness of this lifestyle. Or just curious to see how strange the breads and circuses look...You have these outsiders in some of your images, who seem like the Greek Chorus, giving a perspective to the whole...I like that person's big eyes (it looks like a female) and how focussed they are on this room. And you even gave the teenager purple hair and lips...Very thoughtfully put together, with a real cloistered, jammed-in feeling in this room, like it's all caving-in on that girl. Another well-done piece from you, illustrating your theme with very strong images and imagination.

Your careful considerations have found everything I wanted to say, transforming the old phrase to the modern situation. Change the objects but always bread and circuses are useful in power to control the masses.

A brilliant interpretation of the words. In America we have a show titled "American Idol" where singers compete against each other for a recording contract. Viewers can call in and vote for their favorite singer. One year there were more votes cast for the winner than for president of the United States. I like the addition of the eyes. Spying on the young lady?
